Head in the clouds and waste all around

 A while ago I joined Jannsen Santana and Flavia Cardoso in a fascinating research project: We are studying mega-events, such as the World Cup, Olympic games, music festivals or religious pilgrimages, to try to understand what could make these events more sustainable. 

We started by focusing on two Catholic pilgrimages that take place in Brazil. We looked at how multiple stakeholders are involved in designing the event, participating in it, and determining what happens to the waste generated in them.

We have already interviewed many stakeholders involved, and collected other types of data through participant observation and online research. We are now working with the notion of "value waste" to extend understandings of value dynamics in complex settings, such as mega-events.
